The exhibition at Athenaeum is proof positive of the effects of the SD Art Prize. In this show we have seen the results of a year of toil and great strides made by Brennan Hubbell. Some need the pressure and excitement of a deadline to bring forward their creativity. From the Sparks Gallery exhibition to the Art San Diego show to this final exposure culminating in a year of promotions, Brennan Hubbell has shown us a continuing new range of work.

The light and shadow, positive and negative in James Hubbell's art is one of the most elegant and timeless qualities of this man who is truly an international treasure. We are honored to include him as one of the artist who is the true example of excellence which the SD Art Price holds dear.

Debby
and Larry Kline declared on the first label of their new series Call and Response and Response that it was due to the grant given by San Diego Visual
Arts Network for the SD Art Prize that they were able to present this
work. The themes were set and drawing made and the responded to with a
second drawing. Both are beautifully framed with extra structures that
relate to each subject. They also seem to be specially designed with the
architecture of the Athenaeum in mind.

Using everyday objects in innovative ways is one of the hallmarks of a whole group of contemporary artists. The saw horses in this current work were actually designed in San Diego and so showcasing them in this unusual way is a tribute to innovation in our city.
