In 18 years, more than 500 artists have appeared in the Cannon Art Gallery’s Juried Exhibitions, which are among San Diego County’s most significant showcases for emerging and mid-career artists. Open to artists who live, work or have a studio in San Diego County, the juried exhibitions are lively and eclectic. This year’s Jurors are Yevgeniya Mikhailik, Curator of the Irvine Fine Arts Center, and Ginger Shulick Porcella, Executive Director of the San Diego Art Institute. The Gallery is expertly directed by Karen McGuire.
This is one of the most prestigious juried exhibitions in the county. This year was no exception, showcasing some familiar names but with some exciting discoveries.
I was not familiar with Carrie Minikel, but I found her work to be the most exciting in this show. Looking close up at this assortment of "tools" below was intriguing and amusing. And her sharp paper constructions where clean and luminous with color.
