July 30–Nov 27, 2022
Exhibition celebration: Oct. 29th, 2022 (also celebrating
Pop Smoke: A Veteran Art Exhibition Curated By Amber Zora from Aug 13 to Jan 15, 2023)

Gail has collected over 250 dried sampled of flowers, weeds, vegetables and plants of all sorts. But this show featured some of her one hundred and thirty 20" by 24" single flowers arranged in a rainbow order in two top rooms at Oceanside Museum of Art.  This is a show that has to be seen in person so that you can immerse yourself in the color. I especially liked being able to go up really close to see the details of each one. All of these species are in her own garden and that  bodes well for their survival, but we are lucky to have this documentation as the future survival is unknown. Of course, these images are more than just a faithful reproduction. Each has Roberts voice and they all sing together.

Phillip K. Smith: Lozenge Variant-1
May 21 to September 18th, 2022

Lazenge Variant-1 is almost impossible to photograph and even the video is no where near being able to show this special experience. The smallest upstairs gallery at OMA is perfectly suited to showcase this light changing work. The space is white and the art seems to float off the wall. You have a chance to sit and watch as the color change just fast enough for you to be beguiled.

May 21st to August 21st, 2022

These are last view days for you to view this show of lush and exotic images. The visionary genre reminds me of those vast canvases made before photography.  They were heightened reality views of places most people would never see...vast deserts, artic wasteland or even neoclassical or religious depiction from history. To our ancestors those pictures were as impressive as movies are today and there is something theatrical about all the works in this show. There is a science fiction illustrative nature and you can imagine some of them as posters for a coming attraction to a cinema near you. Many were dark and moody, most surreal and dreamlike or nightmarish. Curated by Michael Pearce, visionary art is part of the Southern California scene, part Hollywood and part LSD.
